LONG ISLAND DOULAS
Premium doula support, from the North Shore to the South Shore
Premium birth and postpartum doula care for Long Island families.
Forever Doula provides certified birth and postpartum doulas to families across Nassau and Suffolk counties. Maybe you're getting ready to deliver at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NYU Langone in Mineola or Stony Brook. Maybe your sweet baby is already home, whether that's a Cape in Massapequa, a split-level in Levittown or a colonial in Huntington, and your nights have more delays than the LIRR (we see you, mama!). Wherever you are in your journey, we've got you covered.
We're based in Sayreville, NJ, and we support families all across New York City and Long Island. Our founder, Sarah Comis, has been a doula since 2015, and our team of certified doulas has supported more than 375 families. Every one of them gets the same thing: premium care, no judgment, and a team that's in your corner for good.
birth doulas on LONG ISLAND
Your birth, your way! Whether you're hoping for an unmedicated birth, planning on an epidural, scheduled for a c-section or preparing for a VBAC, your doula is there to help you reach your goals, with no pressure and no judgment.
Long Island has some of the best-known maternity hospitals in New York, and your doula will meet you at any of them. In Nassau, that includes North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island in Mineola, Mount Sinai South Nassau in Oceanside and Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre. In Suffolk, it includes Stony Brook University Hospital, Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore and Huntington Hospital.
Good news: New York State law gives you the right to have your doula with you during childbirth and your hospital stay afterward. Each hospital still sets its own rules about how many people can join you in the room, so we'll go over your hospital's policies with you well before your due date. No surprises on the big day!
Planning a home birth instead? No problem. We'll meet you wherever you plan to deliver!
Here's what birth doula support includes…
Prenatal visits to map out your birth plan and practice comfort techniques, with your partner right there with you
Continuous, hands-on support from active labor until your baby is in your arms
Help with your baby's very first latch
Text, email and phone support from the day you hire us
24/7 on-call support starting 2 weeks before your due date
An in-home postpartum visit a few days after birth
postpartum doulas on LONG ISLAND
Who says you have to do this alone? Whether you're in Garden City, Bethpage or Babylon, our postpartum doulas come right to your door, so you can rest, recover and actually enjoy those first weeks with your baby.
Overnight newborn care. Being a mom is amazing, but being a well-rested mom is simply magical. Your overnight doula (you might hear "night doula," "night nurse" or "night nanny") arrives in the evening and takes the night shift. She brings baby to you when it's time to nurse, or handles the bottle while you keep sleeping. She takes care of the diapers, the burping and the soothing, washes the bottles and pump parts, and in the morning she walks you through the whole night.
Expecting twins? Our overnight doulas care for twins and multiples too, so every baby is fed, changed and settled while you get the sleep you need.
Daytime support. Daytime visits usually last 4 to 6 hours. Your doula can help with feeding (breast, bottle or both), baby baths and swaddling, your recovery (including after a c-section), light meals and baby laundry. Getting ready to go back to work (and back on the LIRR)? She can help you build a feeding and sleep routine that works for your whole family.
Our overnight and daytime care is billed by the hour, with lower rates when you book more time. You'll find current rates on our Postpartum Support page, and our guide How Much Does a Doula Cost in NJ and NYC? explains it all.
A Childbirth Class in Your Long Island Home
Skip the crowded hospital classroom (and the LIE traffic to get there). Our 3-in-1 Childbirth Education Class happens right in your own living room!
In one private, 6-hour class, you and your partner will learn what to expect in labor and birth, how to get breastfeeding off to a great start, and how to care for your newborn (and yourself) once you're home. Expecting twins? We cover twin births, too. It's all taught by Sarah Comis, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and Spinning Babies Certified Parent Educator, at your pace and with plenty of time for every question on your list. By the time you're done, you'll be a pro. You've got this!

Not in New York! State law (Public Health Law § 2500-m) says a hospital can't deny you access to the doula you choose during childbirth and your hospital stay afterward. The only exceptions are emergencies or situations where someone's safety is at risk. Hospitals do still set their own rules about how many people can be in the room, so we'll go over yours together before your due date.
-
Absolutely! Whether your c-section is planned or a change of plans, your doula helps you prepare, keeps you calm and informed, and supports your partner too. Many hospitals allow only one support person in the operating room, so your doula may wait just outside, then join you in recovery to help with skin-to-skin and that very first latch. Once you're home, our postpartum doulas can help you rest and heal.

As early as you'd like! Your investment is the same whether you book early or late, but booking early means months of support instead of weeks. Read more in When to Hire a Doula.
